Royal Burgh of TorryLying to the south of the historic River Dee, Once a royal burgh that was Torry's history, In 1495 it was recognised a “burgh of barony”, It's a pity, independence had a certain harmony, Swallowed by its big neighbour, Aberdeen gained, Torry's past gone forever, but it's culture remained, Bridges were since built, isolation no longer existed, Driven by that ferry disaster, losses of 32 lives listed, A sturdy community, dependent on fish from the sea, Lost family members, as widows stood on the quay, The lighthouse beamed light directing fishermen home, It was part of our heritage, from proud Torry folk come, The famous Torry battery strategically placed for war, Our first line of defence against any enemy off our shore, As Torry children grew up, with an inherent sense of pride, For our unique place by the Dee on the historic south side Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
