It Isn't Fair

"It isn't fair," she said; and I agree
Life taking her where she ought not be
As in younger day to rush through time
in all the events, then of her prime
And think, then, without a doubt,
life will not change 'til time runs out

It isn't fair to be thus trapped,
settle for less and to adapt
to inconsistency of the brains
that though she tries, it still refrains
And hour and day and months of year
to echo back such loss and fear

"It isn't fair," we humbled say
to those who care for day to day,
as we, then, gather at hearth and home
Knowing at night she'll be alone
And kneel this night at one last prayer
To see her this way, it isn't fair
