Fear of Dark

On a moonless night
I heard a screechy sound!
With a terrible fright
My heart began to pound!

I kept walking on
Without turning around!
For who knew what had
Crawled out of the ground!

My fear struck me dumb
And my limbs were shaking!
My mind had gone numb
And my confidence breaking!

I started to run with
Such a deadly fright!
And never looked back
Till I reached the light!

Then I took a deep breath and
Wondered what could be that!
Damn, for all you know that
Screech might just be a cat!
