In my days of gloom and solitude
Where I need more than fortitude
Shoving away this pain and attitude
In this home I show my gratitude
The Alibi House.......
When the jury promised to make me a destitute,
And sworn that over the barrel will I be a prostitute,
In your warmth I see freedom as an institute
I call you The Alibi House......
My heart burns and in my hand is a goblet full of liquor
The taskmasters of our race whip us with rigor
While my mouth is so sealed to ask for a favor,
My safe haven is The Alibi House.....
When I let my mind go on a trip
And my spirit fruit let to rip'
In vain my flesh creep and drip
Then slowly my emotions churn deep,
But I do remember I have an Alibi House......
This is where I tell my stories and light all my candles,
I bring bouquets of flowers, hold and fondle,
Touch the torso and remember my cradle
Where I see méré stir smoothly with a wooden laddle
Singing sweetly to an infant me lines of an old lullaby.
Here I call The Alibi House...
