Living, loving, and learning

My One True Rock

My one true rock
A shoulder on which I could rely
For whenever I was angry
Or needed a good cry

You were the strongest man I had ever knew
But as I watched you lay in that hospital bed
I knew what I had to do

There was no chance
That's what they all had to say
No matter what we could do
We could not make you stay

Barely responsive fighting to speak
Unable to feel anything but pain
Everything they could do
Would have been in vain

Stop the test I ordered
Just let him be
As hard as it was for me
I had to set you free

The next day
Slowly drifted by
All I could was hold your hand
And try not to cry

For here was this man
The strongest man I ever knew
And I couldn't figure out
How I'd survive this crazy world without you

As you took your final breathes
Tears formed in my eyes
As hard as it was for me
I had to say goodbye

God said it was your time
Now there's a smile on your face
Laughing and pain free
The way you deserve to be

Until we meet again
I'll miss you more and more each day
No matter what I do
This world is just a far lonelier place without you
