I GUESS I'M REALLY GETTING OLD AFTER ALL

Photobucket

I remember those times like yesterday
Young kids having to grow up too fast
With rugged faces and hard as nails

Yet deep inside they had a heart & soul
Trained to do what had to be done in war
They had carried out their duty each day

Though some thought we were just killers
They were never over there now were they
They never saw what truly happened there

They were all back home safe and sound
They had good food and dry clothes too
They had hot showers and their warm beds

I remember these warriors very well indeed
Their thoughts of family and life back home
The plans they were making for their futures

I can see their young faces so clearly still
The way they had laughed and teased each other
The looks on their faces when things got bad

I remember their courage and their dedication
How they'd risked their lives to save a buddy
They covered each others backs day or night

Their loyalty to each other was never doubted
There was this bond that is formed for eternity
He ain't heavy he's my brother as the song says

But in recent times something has bothered me
Maybe it's just old age creeping up on me now
I'm finding I can remember things and details

But lately I'm starting to forget their names
The faces and deeds are extremely clear to me
I guess I'm just really getting old after all

Looking back now it's all very clear to me that had it
not been for all of us young warriors working together
doing our own jobs extremely well during that war many
of us would never have survived that terror we had all
lived through there in Vietnam and many of us wouldn't
have had the chance to become the old men we are today.
