POETRY
Is the ability
To reach into the unconscious
Fearlessly.

An obsessive compulsion
To express pain and joy
At the moment
These feelings
Are recognized.

The courage
To uncover a wound
Rather than bury it
And allow it to fester.

Poetry
Is the gift of expression.
Of being able
To make yourself understood
So that others can
Relate and share.

They tell you
"I feel that way too."
And you want to cry
Because you were brave enough
To expose your pain.

It's the knack
Of being able to understand others
Because you know yourself.
 

It's reaching out,
"I helped me
And now
I can help you."

Poetry
Is the road
To reality.
