Birds you do not own as pets
But the bonding remains
At Mom's infirmary are two cockatoo's
Henry and Cotton Candy
I whistle and Cotton Candy gets Henry
They entertain the old folks
It had been a couple years
I thought they may have forgotten me
Grandpa was ill and I visited
I'd whistle they would whistle back
One of the gals said they take to you
Every visit I would stop and play
One day in jest I said, "Show me your wings!"
A few times and he would do it on cue
It amazed the helpers
Spread his wings over the cage
His mate when she saw me would bring him out
That was two or more years ago
The Caretakers told me he did it only for me
So when Mom was admitted for care
I walked down the hall
And there was excited chirping
Could they remember me?
I whistled and both birds came up
One of the Nurses was looking on
Cotton Candy spun her head in greeting
I said, "Show me your wings?"
Henry spread the wings engulfing the cage
The Nurse said I have worked here two years
"I have never seen him do that you train birds"
I said, "No they train and amazed me!"
