I Wonder
I Wonder April 12, 2016
I wonder what would happen if we had our heroes for a day
They would join us in our struggle, what do you think they'd say
They would walk with us in Belfast,Derry and Dublin town
We could visit the places they left where the others put them down
The thirty two would great them beneath an Irish sky
Black flags fly on the little streets, do you think that they'd ask why
Crosses mark the country roads where many met their fate
Killed in the name of others on a lonely road of hate
We would greet our fallen heroes with happiness and pain
No need to ask them about their past, they would do it all again
Derry would be so touching where fourteen people died
Taken by the force of evil in the town where people cried
Fourteen caskets, young and old, why did they have to die
The troubled life our heroes facing the forces of the crown
Young and old died together, they will never keep us down
Our heroes come with love, the Irish people will have their say
They paid the ultimate sacrifice, Ireland free one day
Death and destruction in the name of church and steeple
A Gaelic Irish nation, the destiny of our people
If we could have our heroes back with the children of our past
We'd live in peace in Ireland, Peace is here at last
I wonder what would happen if we had our heroes for a day
They would join us in our struggle, what do you think they'd say
