Poetic Verses
This Ripe Old Age
I paid my dues and worked long years
To reach this ripe old age
When I can come and go at will
Since time has turned the page.
But even if I could go back
It's doubtful that I would
For in spite of loss and some regrets
My life has been quite good.
No longer do I punch a clock
Or answer to the man
For I've decided from now on
To follow my own plan.
To get up when I want to
Watch late shows if I wish
And on those bright and sunny days
Go try to catch a fish.
When the weather's bad and cold outside
Have coffee and gingersnaps
Maybe watch TV or read a book
Or enjoy a restful nap.
Yes, I have reached a ripe old age
Wherein the rewards are great
And paying dues and working hard
Made each one worth the wait.
