I found myself this day walking alone
With the mountain breeze on my face
And the fragrance of the high country
Within the most magical earthly place
The grasses moved slowly to natures tune
And a distent cry though the trees of crow
Arriving at a rock with views none to beat
I gazed upon the endless valleys that I know
So still was it all around me as I there stood
As if a high mountain heaven was mine alone
A mist so far away I could see that day
Could be smoke from a high mountain home
Then something caught the corner of my eye
And within a valley below I saw them there
At peace a group of high mountain Brumbies
Grazing within the freshest high mountain air
As always nearby there was one looking around
As if to make sure they were up there alone
So beautiful so magestic as if all were family
Within the most beautiful place they'd grown
Such a feeling it rushed right through me
How then I wished I had them fenced below
But soon I again came to realize how a part
Of where they were come summer rain and snow
As much as the wild flowers and the snow gums
As the wedge tail above away up so very high
And as the butter cups that so freely grew
And all things under a blanket of bluest sky
I watched them in all of admiration peacefully
And feeling blessed with all that I could see
A group of such beautiful mountain brumbies
May they always be left alone wild and free
