Today marks sighs and last goodbyes
For some, for those who often cry
For father theirs they loved dearly
Instinct of heart drawn to it clearly
Some still have them close this day
A phone call, text, or card away
Just to tell how much they mean
To princess theirs and boyhood dreams
Here fathers have left their mark
Through love that kindled mother's heart
Throughout all time, a part of one
Called dad, grand dad, as aged becomes
Of War heroes and super ones
Today marks day to celebrate
Their role in life as life does plate
More than their share of tribulations
Stuck through and thin for celebration
Hug them tight as if today
Was theirs to have if one last day
With you, with them as was always
When held gently just yesterday
