Way before they made it a national park
Natural animals up there roamed at will ..
All in their way keeping fire danger low
Doing their own thing their own way until ..
Those with property maintained their fences
All gates were kept locked and all had a key ..
The wild natural and beautiful Brumbies were
Within their own groups away up high and free ..
The once older generations of cattle men once
Took care of property that belonged to them ..
And only ever unlocked those gates away up high
To take cattle down and bring them back up ag'en ..
Life went on as if to a high Snowy Mountain song
Without a thought of upsetting as if the apple cart ..
It had been this way since back then come what may
No problems were heard of or made from the start ..
If a farmer wanted a good Brumby horse he took one
Them knowing then for work they were the very best ..
All of good temperament and gentle in their own way
As horses to work cattle they'd pass each and every test ..
But along came their off spring soon to be in a later time
And a lot of them had ideas of their very own it seemed ..
If they wanted extra land that just took it moving fences
And taking away where the wild natural Brumbies dreamed ..
Then in the city they made it a national park away up high
And set up so many new unreasonable high mountain rules ..
Mostly by people that had never really ever lived there
Along with a grand amount of a new generations fools ..
So many like their grandparents loved these Brumbies
Away up with the mountains wedge tailed eagles that flew ..
The Brumbies themselves were not disturbing anyone at all
Where fields of natural buttercups and snow drops grew ..
They were not taking away the fodder for cattle growers
As they once were happy with what they all had at home ..
But along came so many that just want more all the time
Blaming Brumbies for taking away what was not their own ..
