Being Naive

When I was young and quite naïve
My opinions were dismissed
Anytime I went against the grain
Or offered some new twist.

Back then, I seemed to live as if
My head was in the sand
So willing to turn off my mind
And never take a stand.

I was used much like a doormat
By the rude and indiscreet
No more than just a fleshly rug
On which to wipe their feet.

But those days are behind me now
Oh yes, I'll have my say
And while I don't like arguments
I will not shy away!

For I'm older now and not afraid
To defend what I believe
In spite of those who condescend
And still think me naïve.
