Death II

I have often heard my colleague
doctors proudly say
“I used all my skills and saved
one life today”

I wonder whether a mere mortal
really has the capacity
To defy the almighty death
with certainty

Or was it that death had not
marked that person yet
And the attending doctor got
the full credit

For when death decides to make
a real appearance
I don't think anyone on this
earth has a chance

So would it not be more correct
for us doctors to say
That God is great and that
He saved the day
