In school projects
I have been chosen for three
generation project with my Grand kids
Getting to know me
But being a kid is so different lately
All the things we did as kids forbidden today
The kids all playing in the streets
Kick the can--Hide and seek!
Count to ten do not peek!
I liked packed in like sardines
To be the first to find Kathy I did seek
And that was how I found girls were different
You make the team if you are not weak
Not every boy or girl played or were chosen
Boys were boys girls were girls
If you could not choose
you were a weird loner
But they too found friends
Drug addicts stayed in the shadows
Kick the can
choose up sides make a plan
The smaller kids found frog in the pond
Or wizard games with a wand
Not as many child molesters to be aware
Missing children was rare
No one texting on a cellphone
We actually talked with one another
Reported weirdo to Mother
No one was dodging behind cars when the guns went off
Fights were settled with fists
All lives matter especially good looking girls
The older I get the better I wuz
I prefer those days just because
The Marines and Policemen were my heroes
I stood when a flag went by and saluted a Veteran
Marble games were equalizer for the little guy
Often won because you had the steel-er
Some accused me of losing all my marbles
We rode our bikes downhill without helmets
You hid the cuts and bruises until they healed
Do miss the fact we didn't't have four Wheeler's
Dad hit you with his fist
Talking back you did resist
Mom used a heavy wooden paddle
You were chastised if you were the one to taddle
