Can you pull the beast from the sea?
The leviathan from the deep;
So find out just where he may be,
Hook him while he is asleep.

Can you pull out with a fishhook?
Can you tie its tongue with a rope?
It would be a catch for the book,
If you will be able to cope.

Can you put a ring through its nose?
Can you pierce its jaw with a spear?
Do you know for sure where it goes?
Will the leviathan cause fear?

Will it plead for mercy with you?
Or will be speaking tenderly;
Will it be able to construe,
Will it be pleading somberly?

Will it make any agreement?
Or become your permanent slave;
Will it obey each commandment?
That you give it until your grave.

Can you play with it like a dog?
While keeping it on a leash;
At night, will it sleep like a log?
Will it want to swim like a fish?

Will some want to bargain over it?
Selling to the highest bidder;
And rewarded for your merit?
Your price will someone consider.

Can you fill its hide with harpoons?
Or fill its head with fishing spears;
Can you find before the typhoons?
Stormy seas will bring the worst fears.

Lay your hand down upon the beast,
Think about all of the struggle;
If it is worthy of a feast,
Contraband for you to smuggle.

No one is ever brave enough,
To provoke a leviathan;
For catching it would be too tough,
Hope can easily abandon
