BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
My memory dipped backward
within blurred hallways
I heard the noise
of a forgotten
life
This place has lost it's luster
it is gray and distorted
I am color blind here
I revisit an age
of youth and beauty
for a mere moment
In time scrambled
For those of you
whom helped paint
the portraits
of our days to come
I bid you all
a finale farewell
Here I glanced the forbidden mirror
I have found you all
amongst a young girls angst
A tender time
A tragic time
People and places
lost and found
Resounding laughter
echoes of screams
Behind those sealed doors
your voices call out
my footfalls press forward
I stand strong and remorseful
I glance the wall of rejection
a forbidden state of mind
Familiar faces
and shadows of tragedy
The sands of time are frozen
and hang in thin air
I pause quietly
beside my shallow breath
What one endures
we are measured by our survival
I am brought to my knees
Sadness reveals another face
the depths of love and compassion
that I cannot suppress
inside this age of wisdom
For this simple life
that I walk today
I conclude with this
my visit is short and buried
I brushed against the past
where you all began
a chapter of frailty
closed and distant
Here in this moment
I am humbled
thick skinned
and I carry the scar
of lost innocence
Pain has followed
me
and behind this life
it too
shall remain
