Sugar Cancer

He’s charming and he’s handsome
He’s full of love and passion
One minute he’s her rock
The next he’s lost compassion
She’s beautiful and sweet
Always obliging him
He takes her love for granted
For she’s there on a whim
Left with echoes full of pain
He’s stripped her of her pride
But, she always takes him back
Believing all his lies
She thinks one day he’ll change
She wills her heart to smile
To shine as though she’s right
But she’s still in denial
She musters courage as she dials
She waits for him to answer
He says hello and she goes back
To a love of sugar cancer
Apologies are weak
She’ll hear a thousand more
She’ll savor each precious lie
As she walks through that door

She let so many people down
The ones she called for help
She let herself down most of all
For she can’t help herself

For Emily,

God Bless You!
