Time with my baby doesn't go slow,
For life means too quickly he will grow,
Learning new things, everyday an adventure,
My own little world where he is the centre.
I could waste life away wishing he would walk,
Encouraging him with songs to help him talk,
But time is a teacher and he's already learning so fast,
The present day will soon be another day in the past.
So I'll hug him once more, give his head a soft kiss,
Precious moments with him I cannot resist,
He squirms away desperate to be free,
Knowing safety and comfort can always be found with me.
He wants to be off, trying to explore,
Though he keeps me in eyesight as he heads to the door,
Looking back for reassurance that I am close by,
One of life's little explorers, my precious little guy.
Time please slow down for you come by too quickly,
You make me feel sad and a little bit sicky,
For one day my boy will be head outside for real,
Leaving a gap in my arms that I don't think will heal.
Let me enjoy him whilst he is so small,
I don't ask for much, this one thing is all,
Let him be my baby for a little while yet,
To make memories that I, as his mother, will never forget.
