MY THANKSGIVING DAY THOUGHTS & WISHES FOR 2016

On this day that comes just once each year
We are so very thankful and we do remember
Sometimes those memories will bring a tear
On this very special day in late November

Thanking God for our most bountiful gifts
Things I cherish my own family and friends
As I do recall these years my spirit lifts
Forgive and forget I have made my amends

Throughout all those years and situations
Looking back now on days so very long past
Thinking of our blessings and salutations
They are times and memories that will last

Kids once so little now they have all grown
They have left home and they have married
With their own families their love is shown
And their responsibilities have multiplied

I also remember all the young men and women
Who are serving so far from their loved ones
Fighting a war as our freedom they do defend
Despite all the naysayers and their overtones

Remembering my own war fought in South Vietnam
I was just a young boy who was defending freedom
My thanksgiving dinner was a tin of beans & ham
While guarding my airbase and fighting off boredom

On this special day of reflections and thought
If not for our young warriors over the years
Who gave their all in battles they had fought
We'd not be free and I now fight back my tears

So give them all a moment of silence on this day
For those who are now fighting so far from home
I ask please include them in the prayers you say
They will keep us all free in the years to come
