District Nurse
A little bit of total whimsy from last night's insomnia bout.
Total fiction for I am hale and hearty on my 10,000 steps a day plan.
Life is just a little boring
But it could be so much worse
But for the regular visits
Of my lovely District Nurse.
Oh she evades my clutches
With her well practiced ease:
I think every now and then
She deliberately tries to tease.
Says I'm an old degenerate
But I retain a certain charm
As she so very skilfully
Dodges my clutching arm.
I find it so ironical this bed
Once a scene of joy and bliss
Of many a little cuddle
Many a passionate kiss
Should turn into my kingdom
My little sovereign state
As my body slowly starts
To crumble and deteriorate.
Oh it does the normal functions
Eat digest and defaecate
And my heart beats still
At a slow and steady rate
But when it comes to movement
It just seem to have ossified
Though I take fish liver oil
Which the pharmacist has supplied
And I have my little box of
Medicines of all description
Some bought from the Health shop
Some supplied on my prescription
And it seems the Halls of Paradise
Will just have to wait
For though I can barely walk I'm
In a dreadfully healthy state.
So I lie here with my memories
And my desires, I've still gottem
And if she gets too close
Try to pinch the Nurse's bottom.
Oh I'm growing old disgracefully
Many a wild scheme in my head
And life would be doddle if it
Just wasn't confined to my bed.
