I got ash in my eye

Her love was too heavy, too fast, too intense

Too much in each spoonful, too much to digest

A flood of affection, a storm of desire

A heatwave of passion, her bush was on fire

Well, I've been to heaven and back in a week

High waves in the blankets, squalls in the sheets

I hoped it would last but I thought perhaps not

Her fire was too high, her furnace too hot

It burnt out so quickly from glowing to ash

Did I cry, was I hurt? Surely no need to ask

You know men are strong and tougher than that

I got ash in my eye - on the wind - looking back
