Keeper Of The Flame

 Bring Up The Rear

Slipping along with life's dregs and lees
Past the time one spends down on one's knees
Thru the break in the wall that sets us free
Heading down the road to eternity......

My best friend, to me he says one day
Did you ever think life would end this way
As a battered and beaten elderly man
I said, all you can do is what you can......

No one reaches old age without a few scars
From the endless battle of daily wars
Some fall by the wayside and don't make it
But offered more years everyone would take it.....

It's best to plunge headlong into life's sea of fire
It's best to climb high, then try to climb higher
Where the seeing is good and thinking is clear
Than to drag along and bring up the rear......
