If I were to say I love you

If I were to say I love you

Would you think me impulsive or rash?

Would you turn from my gaze

Walk away in a rage

Telling friends our first date was our last?

If I were to say I love you

Would you think me too forward, too fast?

Would you think my pace crude

Ill-conceived, downright rude

Bid me go and pray never come back?

If I were to say I love you

In my haste would you brand me as mad?

As impatient, imprudent

Beset with illusion

A man of no breeding, no class?

If I were to say I love you

Orchestrating an overbold scheme

I meant no offence

Touch of heart over head

Would you forfeit a poor man his dream?
