Limitless

human beings are limited
but sometimes they surprise you
in unseen and unforgettable ways
these encounters become
indelible lessons

my imagination is limitless
it has served me
as God serves others
I suspect

most of my youth and into my early twenties
I learned
through a song of experience
human beings are capable of surprising cruelty
in positions and places
where one would never suspect

look around you
there's evidence everywhere of this

this is certainly not proof of
the God particle
the biggest question mark
in some people's lives
in mine

pray
I have been commanded
or I am praying for you
and if you would have faith
it will happen
you are never alone

doubting Melissa
at times
has begged
to differ

I've the proof to provide
that I was
and have been and continue to be alone

unless I believe
in the invisible
I remain alone

once I was in a place
where cruelty shouldn't have belonged
the situation found me
almost beyond my ability
to cope

a vacant part of me
began to speak
and the darkened room of my misery
was literally filled
with light

who was that
what was that
was that my imagination
that was so limitless
or did the Great Unhearing Ear
hear me

what did it matter what I chose
to believe
the end result
was my relief
and the ability to
pull myself forward
