Last roads

For Maggie

Hard yard

Hard unyielding concrete beneath my feet.

Tired of the hard yard I've walked all these years.

I've worn a a deep pathway around all the fortress

building. Time to cut free, call it a day.

Have to think it through, won't get paid sitting at home.

Sell up move into an retirement village. Viable proposition

so gotta think, think, my God this thinking is unyielding.

all the hard yards I've walked through the years.

What to do, move and bemoan, that all I'm walking

is a carpeted hallway. Don't reckon i will, I'll enjoy

the softness underfoot, no more hard yard for me.

Today and tomorrow I'll walk the walk of blissfulness.

Hard Yard
