The Ojibwa (Chippewa) believe
That night is full of both good and bad dreams.
When a dream catcher is hung above the place
Where you sleep . . . it moves freely
In the night air and catches
The dreams as they drift by.
The good dreams,
Knowing their way, pass through the opening
In the center of the webbing
While the bad dreams, not knowing the way,
Are caught in the webbing
And destroyed at the first light
Of the morning sun. . . .
Peace unto all that seek the dream
Within the web that lies between
Dark tunnel beckons to believe
Release the dream, Release the dream
Visions rest soft upon the wind
The good to see, bad lost within
Sometimes a dream to dream again
A song within, a song within
Entwined within the silken threads
Lost are bad dreams to rear their heads
Nightmares banished when sun is led
What lies ahead, what lies ahead
I wish a dream from me to you
Of sunlight bright and skies of blue
I reach to touch the treasured few
