The Bogside Boy
The Bogside Boy March 23, 2017
A Bogside boy from Derry town
The spirit of freedom, never down
From the little streets you took the lead
For Irelands cause in time of need
The people's friend from the town we know
Your time had come, it was time to go
Our hero has gone with peace at last
An Irish hero, we remember the past
You were with us Martin to the very end
The gas yard wall we'll sing it again
Derry remembers that troubled time
William Street that civil rights time
We lost our people without defeat
Fourteen people without retreat
Walk the dog in heaven by the gas yard wall
We miss you Martin, walk proud and tall
A Bogside boy who supported the people
You ignored the past, the church and steeple
Ireland in the sky with heroes of the past
You've found peace in the sky, freedom at last
A Bogside boy from Derry town
The spirit of freedom, never down
