BANDAGE ROUND MY HEART
Listening to children talking about
Mummy and daddy fighting saying,
Mummy’s needs a bandage round her heart.
I would like to stop the hurting in my head.
When mum and dad start shouting, I scream
Are we always going to live this way?
Dad drinking?
And mum, will she always need that bandage?
I can’t stand them living this way.
Wish I could run away.
Run away but nowhere to go.
Wish I had that bandage round my heart.
My head is getting tighter.
Won’t, can’t stop screaming
It blocks out the tears in mummy’s heart.
I’ll go outside and listen to the wind.
Hear other people screaming.
I’m lost in this familiar street.
I can't help mummy.
Can't help tie that bandage round her heart.
It hurts so much when I think
They don’t love me anymore.
Someone, anyone
Can you tie a bandage
My mummy’s heartbroken and I’m scared.
Scared, that when i grow up, I'll treat my
wife and children the same way
Today I don't need to tie a bandage,
Grown up now and always
i find love and kindness
works well and the screaming
Never happens in our lives together.
