Speaks Now The Mermaid

I ask you to take a moment
To listen for my voice upon the wind.
Look long upon my vision
As my words to you begin

Speaks Now The Mermaid

In the quiet of the moment
as you gazed upon my face
Did you see before you only a legend,
that time has not erased?

Could you have allowed yourself
an inkling of the possibility
That I was once, within once upon a time,
a true reality?

I speak today for my brothers
whose survival you hold the key.
Will they one day too become only a legend,
but at the hands of thee?

Take the peace that I now leave with you,
within the time that you were here.
Please remember that for our beautiful oceans,
there is reason to shed a tear.
Only a legend born of folklore
That today sings my mournful song?

I sing for my brothers of the sea . . . .
But I have sung so long!
