'' After You Meet Your Demise ''

I attended a wake,
For goodness sake,
The deceased was sat up in a chair,
Smoking a fag with a slice of cake,
Who the Hell placed him there.

Go have a talk,
I heard his wife squawk,
You can't speak to the dead I replied,
She'll be asking him next to go for a walk,
Does she actually know he has died?

As they gather around,
The atmosphere's profound,
They surround him singing and dancing,
Naturally he refuses to make a sound,
Does he know the time is advancing?

What if he falls,
Against the walls,
Don't worry the wife shouts out loud,
Him being here is what enthralls,
Doesn't he stand out in the crowd.

He's a ghostly white,
Yes, his attire's bright,
But in truth they are being misled,
The deceased should not be placed in full sight,
Have some dignity the poor bastard's dead.

But the party goes on,
Way past the new dawn,
The agree they've fulfilled his request,
This is it it's time you were gone,
We are going to lay you to rest.

This is not an act,
This is based on fact,
Funerals have taken on a new guise,
The living and deceased will now interact,
