Seventy six million spent
Bnt not a single peep found:
Many false alarms but
Not a single alien sound,
Plenty of earthly signals,
From TV and mobile phones
But when it comes to unearthly
Ones we seem to be alone.
The watching Watchers watched
From the depths of time and space
Would the monkeys self destruct
Or achieve that state of grace
To be invited in to join
The Community of Life
Existing for millennia
Free of angst and strife
The odds were considered even
For what they were worth
Whether man would progress
Or destroy their Mother Earth.
Until known it was decided
The Apes of Mankind
We're not yet fitted for
Membership of the Galatic mind.
So the watching Watchers watched
As they cloaked The Earth around
With their semi permanent barrier
To filter out communication sound.
And they observed the planet
That little ball of blue
Hoping the worst case scenario
Wouldn't inevitably come true
Seventy Six million spent
With nothing at all to show
And so,the SETI Project
Had to closedown and to go
Mankind, convinced it was alone
Found other things to do
Never suspecting they were
Living in a Great Galactic Zoo
