You glide effortlessly upon the wind
High and proud you roam the summer sky
I am transfixed by your beauty
I am envious of your new found freedom
Childhood pictures flash across my consciousness
Memories of the warmth of sunshine
The openness of an empty field
And the softness of grass that reached to find
The comfort of feet set free of soles and laces
I ran like the wind that you would rise upon
Just so that I could be the one to set you free
You took to the air and danced within childhood's joy
Of a new accomplishment met and the thrill of discovery
Your colors so bright against the canvas of your flight
Adrift on upward breeze you soared
To touch the face of billowed clouds
Majestic flight within the realm of fantasies' vision
Where laughter found voice and birds took wing
Leaving me to wonder this day . . .
How long it has it been my friends
Since you watched a kite take flight?
