Into The Swirling Sea Of White.

I learned that
snowflakes travel at walking speed
free-falling through the atmosphere
at 6.5 miles per hour
individuated delicate
five-pointed stars
they take their precious time
to align and alight upon the ground
they seem to have formed
a relationship with the space
that surrounds them
they fill it up
muffle-hushing the watching, waiting world
how they caulk in the troubled broken spaces
with a quieting suffocating stillness
they fill me with awe
frozen water so gentle
they melt when they connect with
the bridge of my nose
and form lacework over the fur
of our Himalayan cat
setting him down
he dashes through a frantic ballet
leaping in wild estatic tour-jetes
while snowflakes
frost his long dark coat
together we glance upwards fixed
our eyes became chatoyant
both of us entranced
staring into
the swirling sea of white
