Windmills

When the shadows fall to evening
And the silence screams my name
In the pretense of the believing
That I can still dance in the rain

Circles never to find closing
When the heart remains the same
Left still to you your choosing
Of how we must play the game

And the clock is swiftly taking
The life that is lived within today
My tears will soon find their falling
As they have in yesterdays

I am soon to find you gone
With the memories living on

Locked in vessels of forgiving
I have placed heartache upon a shelf
Pretending all is right between us
For preservation of the self

Movies continuously playing
Just within the windows of my mind
Pause cannot find its meaning
When the remote you cannot find

The day moves to the morrow
With the yesterdays still in place
Do not look upon the heartache
Better safely hid away

The circles still belong
And I will soon find you gone

Your mind granted the forgetting
Of the pictures really never seen
Brought to me is still the nightmare
Of what became of you and me

The circles ever widening
When the evening shadows call
Not easy is the hiding
Of the biggest hurt of all

Discarded was our meaning
When a stranger called you friend
My vision left to his demeaning
Your care insisted to be his

Now he calls you Mommy
With you calling him your son
Leaving heart in painful longing
Not understanding where it belongs

*Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever spinning reel

As the images unwind
Like the circles
That you find
In the windmills of your mind

*Ring around the rosy
Pockets full of posies
Ashes ... ashes
We all fall down

And now ... I find you gone
How am I to move beyond?
