Muted Moments
Moments in time left to muted landscape Disguised within veiled reality of pretense Silent whispers to seek consciousness Of footsteps left behind to trace What was or could have been Kaleidoscope of fragmented colors Left in childhood shadows Remaining still to be seen in continuance A heart that seeks healing A heart that remains bleeding A heart to question why the footsteps Have remained to make it so Alive in muted moments Are battles fought . . . won . . . Yet at times Left to become again so vividly real Comes the poet to the pen To sit upon the swing again To reach beyond the sheltered pain To find the life that still remains Within rhymes that come And rhymes that go Round and round the circles grow No footsteps left behind to seek acceptance Of who was always my first thought Memories leave in tearful shades of reluctance To leave behind the pictures that soul was taught To the child that sat upon the swing To the woman of today No footsteps left behind to bring The tears of yesterday Until . . . .
