Ten Thousand Steps A Day

Ten thousand steps a day
Dave Burgess had said
Ten thousand steps a day
Such a figure of dread?
It seemed to me
Such a lot to ask
Was I still really
Up to the task.
With the ap downloaded
On to my smart phone
Sometimes with Sue
Sometimes on my own

I started off to do
My little daily ramble
Not exactly a sprint
Just a gentle amble.
Quite often I pause
And have a little talk
With some local dogs
Taking owners for a walk.
Sometime composing poetry
As I gently stroll along
Sometimes  just humming
A good old country song.

I found it got much easier
After a little while
It is after all only just
Over three miles.
Not exactly a pleasure

Not exactly a chore
Though when we started
It felt like much more,
And I feel so much better
In every single way
Listening to Dave and doing
Ten thousand steps a day.
