My Life (post divorce and empty nest) in Sonnets
I Am She
Original Contemporary Poetry by author, Jean Parr
“I Am She”
It took me a lifetime as a daughter
To understand and respect the heartaches of my mother
I've cried rivers of saltwater
When my daughter relied on another
I am she and she is me
When my daughter left my life with nary a word
No matter that I was freed or how much I plead
I remained waiting; my life out of focus, blurred
Eventually the roles will reverse
She will realize how I was portrayed and the heartbreaking decisions I made
Before the arrival of a hearse, she will be ready to converse
When she is a mother, an epiphany will cause her apathy to fade
I am she
She is me
