Freedom is a treasure that we must guard jealously
or we will lose it
It was and is fought for by brave men and women who some gave their all for us to be free
We stand at a theshold in history today
Are we so willing to casually toss away our freedoms
because we don't want to be political incorrect
I do not know who
wrote this poem - Whoever it was
I have a great Thank You for you
We need to be reminded what our service men and women do and did for us
I can only stand and salutes them for the great price they paid for us to be free
It is the
VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the veteran
who serves under the Flag,
GRANT THEM REST O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON
Bless them all!!!
***This was an email send to me by one of my
fellow poets Dan Donlan on this poetrypoem site
I consider him to be one of the great Americans we have
He served with honor in the Korean war
Married a wonderful woman
raised a loving family
set an excellent example for friends and neighbors
we can be proud of men like him
AND of my silver haired honey
who was a veteran too - a brave and wonderful man
~~~~~~~ a Navy man ~~~~~~~
