If I Were Your  Island....

************
******
***

if I were an island
would you come visit me
I know I sometimes seem far off
even isolated
would you brave the distance
would you be my sea
we'd crash into each other
say hello over and over to one another
in so many ways
I believe we could exist so pleasantly

I know I've been a loner
I've always been a bit shy
but I wouldn't be lonely if
you came like the water and chose
to surround me
please come closer to see
me

I like your music
you make comforting music
the tender wildness of your voice
the rhythyms of your secret language
how you couldd rock me

I'd feel like a swaying hammock
like a gently rocked cradle
while your ocean murmured its current of words
a kind of lullaby
a sort of symphony

there's reef that's around me
its not a moat though its jagged
there's no need to be wary
its worn in places yet there's so many spaces
where the walls break free

your tides are wild
and I am restless
your currents are strong but not untested
how
I'd like to feel your energy racing towards me

I've been so lonely
I know I've been an island
but you're so brave
brave enough to come the distance
to come see me

I'm ready to greet you
my sandy shores are soft, porous
if I said to you
I'm your island
would you come
would you stay
I know I'd like it so much
if you'd surround me

I listen to the sound of ocean waves at night
so maybe this is where this has come from
