Songs of Life

What Real Heros Are Made Of

Putting it all on the line for their country,
They stepped forward when others would baulk.
Facing their fears they keep moving forward.
Their eyes ever watchful for those that they stalk.

They walk through doorways knowing that they are risking,
Not going home at the end of the day.
All for their love of their country and units,
Words can't explain what their actions convey.

Eyes they encounter that stare right through them,
Can't always be trusted to reveal friend or foe.
Still they keep hunting to finish their missions.
Their orders will tell them when it's time to go.

Back to their spouse, their lovers or families;
Their jobs might still be there if they make it home.
Friends at the airport will be there to greet them,
In the land of the free where the buffalo once roamed.

Who will they talk to and explain what they're feeling,
And tell their reaction to watching friends die?
Will you understand the price they are paying?
The cost of your lifestyle has always been high.
