Songs of Life

Someone Who Will Listen

Come in my friend,
I hope you can stay a while.
It's good to see you once again.
Let us turn that frown into a smile.
That's much better .
I can see a twinkle in those teary eyes.
You say you've been looking,
for someone who cares.
You're tired of the pretenders?
I am here and so are you.
Today it seems I will have to do.
How was your day?
Did you work hard and long?
Tell me where it all went wrong.
Perhaps I could entice you with a cup of tea,
or maybe just some sympathy.
Remember when the wind stole your hat,
and you made one from paper?
Imagine that.
I ran to the store to buy you another,
but your hair was so beautiful,
Out from under the cover.
All you wanted then and need right now,
is someone who will listen to your plight.
If I promise to keep you warm and safe from harm,
Will you stay through out the night?
But again I ask about your day,
and about the way it began.
For I am here when others turn away,
When you really need a best friend.
