Please Don't Bring Me Flowers

don't bring me roses
in coffin white boxes
its true...

roses are red
dead violets are blue
you should've left them in the ground
like I told you to

please don't bring cut flowers
they perish long before their time
I prefer all living things to
have the chance to live
out their lives
as happily and fully
while they can

instead you could grow
and tend a planted garden
and furnish it with love
and care
or you could find a neglected one
and make a home
and vow to help to mend
the broken-ness that's there

leave the flowers in the ground
then
leave the flowers as you found
them
