Love cornered the market

From my heart to my pen is no distance at all

But the journey through life cost me more than I thought

The laughter, the tears, the lips that I've kissed

The girls that I married, the girls that I missed

The echoes of heaven ring loud in my ears

The passion, the pitfalls, the lies, the veneers

The promises made that could never be kept

The fun nights, the rum nights, when I hardly slept

Love cornered the market, my shares all went up

Made hay while the sun shone, what I wanted I took

Sounds awfully wild, but young love will not wait

Who on earth could refuse so much love on one plate?

It was all party, party, long nights raising Hell

Where I slept was a toss-up, a sweet bagatelle

No rules that I knew of, no eyes to condemn

No rap on the wrist, 'don't do that again'

From my heart to my pen yes, the distance is short

But the life in between more than I could wish for

I've loved and I've lost, took the knocks and the praise

Might put pen to paper – one of these days
