 ramblings and things

Oh we call Jimmy’s Place
Our large workshop shed,
Named for a young Hero
Who was far too soon dead.
It's a place to sit and work,
Plan your latest scheme,
Labour slowly away at your
Latest artistic dream.

There's wood work and modelling,
Facilities for art and needle craft,
For splashing paint on canvas,
Or for just acting daft.
Separately at one end
A quiet little place
For just talk or counselling
For sitting face to face.
It's a place of hope and comfort
For fighting anxiety and despair
And we laboured for months
To raise funds to build it there.

I have sat in there quietly
When I felt my brain was fried,
Have sought other’s help,
Some times just quietly cried.
Young Jimmy, Killed in Action
A fine and brave young man
Just another sad statistic
Of conflict in Afghanistan.
So we built it in his memory
And although Young Jimmy is gone
Jimmy's Place proudly exists
Helping troubled Veterans carry on.

Rifleman James Backhouse, killed in Afghanistan 10 July 2009 aged 18.
Remembered with sadness and Respect
