My Life (post divorce and empty nest) in Sonnets
When She Knew
Original Contemporary Poetry by author, Jean Parr
“When She Knew”
She knew the morning after when he said, "It was wonderful seeing you"
She knew when he asked her what would happen if he knocked on her door and saw the shadow of another physique
She knew when his love became care and she felt dejavu
She knew when he left that morning with the departing words, "Have a great week"
She might as well have been a whore
If he had left money on the counter, it couldn't have hurt more
She was wrong, "Lose my number and don't ever f##### call me for s###!" was certainly a score
Although her heart was shattered, she loved him enough to let him go or come back to shore
She knew when she felt vulnerable, alone and rebuffed
She knew that when they were together, both would end up destroyed
She knew when he became unstable and rough
She knew it was over when his reality was void
His image is reflected in her mirror
Her image is clearer
