My Calton

My Calton                                         August 7,2017

You can sing about the town you love, Derry and the gas yard wall

The Calton is my town, just love the Gallowgate

No fancy bars or great big cars, no employment here

No castle on the street, we hear drums but don't retreat

No entry to the Gallowgate in this Irish part of town

They beat their drums and escape on an English named street

We're not alone in the place we call home

Many friends close by, sixty thousand every week

Irish people came here to Glasgow by the Clyde

No jobs to be found, they brought their Irish pride

Welcome to Glasgow, Their Irish names they had to hide

The looked the same as others, no employment to be found

The struggle continues "no Irish need apply"

Glasgow's East end with winning ways

The other side of town with their cheating ways

Just love my Calton in the town Celtic plays

Sectarian free Calton sends a message of shame

Equality and justice in this part of town

You can sing about the town you love, Derry and the gas yard wall

The Calton is my town, just love the Gallowgate
