(A Prayer of Intercession--Brief Joy)

brief joy
temporary as
this morning's waning red sky
or fading dew

brief joy
impatient and hungry little bird
you flit away from my reaching grasp
from my vanishing view

brief joy
stay
keep me a friend longer
love me like
I need you

brief joy
acquaint me with your kind, sort of face
reassure me
tell me we have a time
a place

though brief
you are
joy,
all through time
how
I have needed you
