Riding into Battle

Riding into Battle

I start with a prayer as I begin my day
Lord let me do better than I did yesterday
I get geared up with my sword and shield
Determined to press forward refusing to yield
The enemy is well known he wears no disguise
In fact every morning I look in his eyes
He knows me well and I know him the same
He plays me like a pawn in a never ending chess game
I say to myself this day belongs to me
I am the master of my own destiny
Every day is the same I ride into battle
I take no guns no horse or saddle
There is no long journey to Kuwait or Beirut
No fighter jets or tanks no camouflage suits
It's not the Persian Gulf and not the Middle East
But it's a war just the same and as real as can be
The spoils don't consist or silver or gold
The ultimate prize is possession of my soul
Temptation is the weapon most commonly found
Not always seen but always around
It doesn't strike with a thundering blow
It may have struck twice and you wouldn't even know
Until one day you look up and find
That you have been operating behind enemy lines
So I ride into battle I'm well aware
That where ever I go the enemy is there
He knows my strengths and all of my down falls
And in battle he will use them all
As for me all I can do is pray
Lord help me win this battle today
And so I fight daily thinking of them
Whose lives are encouraged if I should win
